A Biblical look at Christian Feminism.
Like most males born on planet Earth, I was not outright born, nor raised, to be a Feminist. I was raised to think and believe in my “Maleness” as making me stronger, privileged, and entitled to specific roles and perks that little girls in my grade school class beside me could not grow up and have. But Now as a Christian, I need to re-think this!
Empty is an interesting word. Is it negative or is it positive? What does it mean to be empty? Is it something I should seek or avoid?
This article explores the relationship between empty and resurrection.
Forget the past. Bury the past. Stop idolizing the past. God is not sending you to dwell in the past, but in the new thing that He is doing! It is the sin of nostalgia to love the old over the new because Jesus never does old things in the lives of new creators.
I tried to find meaning outside of Jesus! I tried to get lost in intellectual pursuits, artistic endeavors, the materialism of greed, not to mention the gluttony of self...Nothing brings happiness except; “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17
At the intersection of Romance, Philosophy, and Unyielding Faith is KIERKEGAARD!
Stephen Backhouse writes a power pack page-turning biography of this Danish Reformer and Philosopher that is near impossible to put down. This short blog will help you learn the basics of Søren Kierkegaard, his key family relationships, his real-life Romeo and Juliet relationship with Regine Olsen, and his passion for Christ all; while reviewing Backhouses brilliant biography.
Kierkegaard is a Philosopher who changed the world, through the theology of individual relationship to Christ.
Perfect love cast out fear. Sure, we still need to run from lions! Still, only God’s Grace can do what the amygdala the hippocampus, adrenaline spikes cannot complete! Jesus Saves!
“Be strong and courageous...he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."
So many people believe they failed because they did not get what they prayed for. Maybe prayer is not like writing a letter to Santa Clause and promising you will not be naughty and only nice. Maybe, prayer is not at all about what you get?
Do I still fight with the weapons of this world?
Seriously, you can’t win God’s fight using the Devil’s weapons. It is called the good fight for a reason. Let's learn beat the Devil without playing by his rules!
We live in a world where getting stuff done (the quicker the better) is ingrained in our very existence. But this isn’t the way God sees things. Reading the Gospels, we often see Jesus doing things that seem at odds with our lifestyle. We need a recalibration of what it means to spend our time wisely. Long, loving hours with the Father in prayer and worship are far from wasteful!
Stop trying to force people to come up to where you think they ought to be, and you go down to where they are. That is what Jesus does. He does not call us up to His level. He meets us at our hurts, our struggles, and our needs. He is incarnate with our pain and he walks that path with us.
Depression is real with pastors. It seems to be pervasive. They above all things, don’t want to let Jesus down. Stop and give that thought, we leave the most influential member of our churches without any pastoral care and wonder why churches don’t grow. The solution is quite simple. Love your pastor. Embrace their ministry. Listen to their ideas.
Devotional Blog: Jesus seeks those who are in trouble. Simon is sinking but Jesus is seeking. Simon's sins against God are stacking up. Will he see it? Or will he just choose to see the sins of others while missing his own depths of debt?
This blog is very short because it originated as a simple social media post that really made a powerful impact on people across political and religious lines. I have had requests to share it with a larger audience.
In a world where tactile intolerance is taking over the ideal of Christ, it is getting harder and harder for people of faith to practice Biblical love. Yet, Jesus declared, “A new command I give you: Love one another." I seek a life where I care enough about the people whom Jesus loves, to LISTEN to them, to try to hear them, and even understand things I wholeheartedly disagree with.
The book of Genesis tells us that when God created human beings, He created them in His own likeness: “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them,” (Gen. 1:27). Just as children bear the image and likeness of their biological parents, all of humanity bears the image of their Creator.
Learn The Steps To Answering Angry Atheists...
Reasonable people, who don’t believe in deities don’t attack the invisible God behind your behavior. They address your behavior that they think is problematic. If a person fights against a being they claim does not exist, if a person insults, cusses out, and blasphemes a deity they say does not exist, if a person hates something they say is a delusion, then the Good News is that they are not beyond reach.
Mercy is not a harlot of Justice. Mercy is not a pass. Mercy is the execution of all justice on One who was innocent... I want godly Justice. God wants to call me to godly Mercy. Neither wins unless we both do and that requires repentance.
Justice is not something we just seek to uphold. Justice is something we model to the fallen world.
We understand that people are not sitting in our pews watching Netflix, playing games, or visiting naughty sites. We understand you know how to silence your phone. We understand it is very likely your Bible, Hymnal, and primary way to communicate with others, during the service, in a way that will not disrupt others sitting around you.
God can’t be alive in dead things like history, manuscripts, and archeological relics if He is not alive and kicking in the love and compassion of Believers. There is more substance of evidence in the life of an addict who finds sobriety in Christ, than in finding the foundation of an ancient wall in Jericho.
We all must, as Bible-believing, liberty-loving Christians, stand up and demand that the Government get out of our pulpit, out of our Bible, and out of the business of justifying political policy with subjective interpretations of our Bible! We must not forsake our liberty of religious freedom, by handing over our religious understanding to the State to use, even if with good intentions, lest we find that Caesar is the only version of God we have left!
The authority in true cults is not given to a broad base of leaders, but is almost always centered on a central, hierarchical figure who rules, reinterprets truth, and hands out lavish rewards to the “Faithful” and harsh rebuke and punishment of dissenting and independent thinkers.
Sarah Monzon is a Navy chaplain's wife and a stay at home mom. Her debut novel, The Isaac Project, skyrocketed to Amazon bestseller status while her Sophomore book, Finders Keepers, won the 2017 SELAH award!
This blog post highlights the history of the struggle, with a particular emphasis on developments of the last 2000 years. Despite our human tendencies, God proposes self-governance, not centralized power, as His preferred solution to sin-induced chaos.
Think before you click. Think more before you get upset. Think even more before you buy into the emotional hook of a fake story. And think best before you share because it is not your name you embarrass, it is the credibility of those bearing the Gospel that is a stake. Don’t be duped into doing the devil’s deeds.
The same old lies and justifications came flooding back. “Jesus, knows things we don’t,” and “There had be some level of repentance in Mathew” and “Jesus couldn’t help that the other tax collectors came.” And lastly, crux of what I call the “lie,” someone said, “Pastor, Jesus would never let someone follow Him unless they were truly repentant.” That was a lie!
Nabeel, fought Christ the whole way through his journey to Truth. But, when he got to his wits’ end, he would pray and ask Allah to show him how to refute error, or to know the truth about Islam. Each time, “Allah” would lead him deeper into Christian truth. Eventually, Allah started sending Nabeel, clearer and clearer visions and dreams, that, even when decoded by his Muslim mother, was screaming at Nabeel: “Jesus is the only way to God. To be with God, is to accept Jesus as the Savior from our sins. “
Shame, and shaming, only exposes our own noir de nadir fears, that perhaps their doubt is true, and that Jesus won’t show up, and our only option it to silence them, with force if necessary, before it spreads. Understand though, if you engage in such nonsense it is because you lack faith in the ability of Jesus to show up and prove himself.
“If a man knows precisely what he can do to you or what epithet he can hurl against you in order to make you lose your temper, your equilibrium, then he can always keep you under subjection.” -- Howard Thurman --“Jesus And The Disinherited”
Dispelling Theo-Politics is the act of stopping the madness of mixing up politics and theology. In part 2 I look at what happens when our love for a political ideology gets so confused with your religion you end up worshiping it.
Dispelling Theo-Politics is the act of stopping the madness of mixing up politics and theology. In part 1 I explore how we got in this whole mess of pointing political leaders when Jesus is King of all.
Manson is the image that first comes to mind when someone says, “cult leader” or “mass killer” or “human evil.” Rightfully so, because his type of evil is both rare and petrifying; but is it really the greatest evil my generation has seen? In a way, iconic evil is the way we scapegoat evil human nature by replacing it with iconic figures so we don't have to notice our own level of evil.
Putting the Life back in Pro-life!
Remeber, the Church cannot sit idly by, claiming to be pro-life...To be pro-life means to be pro-life for the entire life of the child, not just the first nine months that lead up to birth.
DACA stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival. DACA has become a political talking point but it is not. It is a deeply personal, spiritual, and moral issue, and people of faith must come to understand issues immigration as more than talking points.
Four people tell our experiences with controversy regarding the removal of the Confederate Flag and other Confederate memorials from our nation, state, and culture. Its goal is not to preach but to share emotional impact through story and experience.
Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for admiration and a lack of empathy for others. But what happens when we have a spiritually inflated sense of their own importance, and a deep need for self-centered praise while holding disregard of others? Please read!
I remember when I was in India doing evangelism with a group of pastors. We baptize just under seven thousand Hindus into Christianity. I literally took part in a baptism service by a river bank in India that went on from sunup to sundown and never ended nor finished. It makes me think, there is so much work left to be done. Who is going to do it?
The Bible declares us all equals in Christ. Yet racism is more then skin deep, it is embedded in worldviews, educational systems, cultures, and assumptions. How do we address this as a Church? What do we do when these problems slip into the church?
#JesusFirst It is a movement. Pass it along. He is really coming, with a rod of iron, and He will rule all the nations. It is time to get the message out. Jesus is King. And all other rulers will bow to Him... Like the Rabbi said, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness..." And the righteousness of God is not Trump, Obama, Clinton, Republican, or Democratic; it is Jesus.
The problem with the Celeb Pastor is not only can they not identify with your local issues and personal experience, you can't easily ask them clarifying questions. Understand your local pastor is a scholar in his own right and is better qualified to assist you then some "image" or "brand" Pastor you only connect with on TV.
Finders Keepers is author Sarah Monzon’s second novel and goes hand and hand with her companion novella 12 Days of Snowmen. Both are part of a larger, ongoing family saga, Monzon is unfolding for her readers. Finders Keepers, additionally, features a dual storyline between the present time and 1699 Spain. Check out this quick review.
We all make promises we can't keep. What about all those promises we keep making to God? And what about the promises God makes to us? Legalism is a funny thing, in that we always want us to go home to it. It is time for a new promise.
Half- naked, she was dragged from her room, from her darkness, into the light; cast at the feet of Jesus. Broken, shamed, dirty, guilty, without dignity nor humility she appeared, caught in her sins…before the very Son of God... Read what happens next!
When a church gets into a spiritual recession, as all churches sometimes do, and the church members start cutting back on her spiritual investment, the economy of saving souls and making dynamic disciples for Jesus starts to head towards a massive depression. What can We do? Read on...
Scars. Life wounds scabbing over. Everyone has them. We go to church to simply play, “cover up Christianity.” You see the point is scars are simply proof God is healing us, and that what once was a wound is in the act of being restored. But what is really unacceptable is how many people sit and suffer simply because they don’t know it is ok to hurt, ok to be blemished, and ok to have scars.
Some days, I want to go on dreaming. Some days, I don’t want to accept the status quo. Some days, I want to believe there really is more. And some days, are actually, as it turns out, usually my best days; the days I am more alive, better able to function, and filled with more complete grace for others around me.
Paul warns us, as well, that not all that glitters is from Heaven. He warns that as time goes on false teachers will arise and lead people astray in the same way that Satan has. “For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.” 2 Corinthians 11:13-14.
UNBROKEN tells the story of Olympic athlete Louis “Louie” Zamperini and his very broken self-image and self-worth as a first generation Italian immigrant in America. Louie is depicted in the movie as a “type of Christ” like figure. What director Angelina Jolie does is nail the art of flirtation with Christian themes without losing her secular audience or compromising the integrity of the secular historic story she is telling.
Sorry ladies, but this one is for the dudes, feel free to eavesdrop and you will certainly learn our secrets but shhh… don’t let us know you are here or mention that you ever overheard this most private conversation. It may be stereotypical to say, but there is still truth in it, men like to fix things... let get it done!
Readers of my blog who are Seventh-day Adventist most likely, at some point in their life, have been asked what their religion is and
after telling them received the following response; You’re a Seventh-day WHAT?
Here are some facts you may enjoy learning...
Today Robin, my old childhood friend, I stand on my desk saying, “Captain my Captain; lesson learned, message received.” And I’ll add to that, let us all keep looking to the Ultimate Captain of all Captains in our times of depression and addictions for He (Jesus) has come to give us life more abundantly.
What I really want to say is preaching the Word, living the Word, giving the Word, modeling the Word, is not just the job of Pastors it is the job of all who read these words. God is calling you to set the captives free.
Johnny Cash once sang, “You’re so heavenly minded (that) you’re no earthly good…,” and I’ll add such is the Ineffective Christian. The Ineffective Christian is one who cares more about his or her status, reputation, and self-righteousness then gathering people for the coming Kingdom of God.
Noah opened to great box office success but for many Christian’s it is was no success they could support. To say it is not Biblical is an understatement. It is full of all kinds of folklore, myths, and eclectic tales of the deluge.
We don’t have to approve of sin, in order to lover sinners. You don’t have to be a second “Holy Spirit” for it is who He convicts the world of sin, not you! But you do need to share the love of God to all those who need to be snatch from the fire. I pray for the day when we send Christians to Hollywood not to judge it, but to love it, pray for it, minister to it, and become heaven ordained missionaries too it.
I am a sucker for hitting the holiday classic TV marathons! Come on admit it, there is nothing more fun in this world then Joey with a turkey on his head! Which oddly enough got me thinking about my all-time favorite TV holidays moments and what they can teach us today about good holiday cheer! So here they are…
It is interesting to me that the word holiday comes from the linguistic heritage of “Holy Day.” Originally all western “holidays,” were early church holy days. As Western Civilization evolved and multiple stages of development took place this concept for better or worse got lost among us.
All loss of life is a loss. Humans have what is called intrinsic value. Their value comes from being human not from their deeds. The mere fact that you share humanity means you have value that can’t be taken away or increased by bad or good actions.
When we examine all the relevant historical evidence, we will discover Darwin’s Theory was not just a product of empirical observation, but rather a product of the times he lived in. What we do know now is that history shows Darwin was a failed medical student with his only formal education in theology, not science. Theologians make theology, not science. So we must now ask ourselves is Darwinism really a scientific theory or really just a new religion?
The problem with headline hunting and tabloid prophecy are that you could be right or you could be wrong, and we would never know which one is the case until after the fact. One thing is certain: there has never been a time in all history where it was more important to know what we believe and why…
